Meet the Knife Roll
Over the past couple of years we’ve received more than a handful of requests for knife rolls, but we knew that a product this specific could not be designed alone. We needed to collaborate with an expert in the world of culinary tools -- so when Denver-based chef Jeff Osaka (of Osaka Ramen, the upcoming Sushi-Rama, and the late Twelve restaurant), approached us to do a collaboration, we jumped at the opportunity.
Our goal was to create an easily transportable case that united practical and professional functionality with the refined aesthetics and durable natural materials that we use in the rest of our products. After numerous design meetings and brainstorms, followed by a series of prototypes which were field tested by Chef Osaka himself, we are pleased to share the result of this collaboration: a limited-edition, chef-approved Knife Roll designed for professional chefs, outdoor cooking enthusiasts, or anyone looking to protect and transport a full set of knives and culinary accessories.
A handsome, heirloom-quality alternative to the standard kitchen tool kit, the Knife Roll is a quad-folding case that shares some of the design and construction details we use in our larger bags. Natural cowhide straps and solid brass-buckle closures ensure that the case stays securely closed as you travel, while lending a sophisticated look not typically found in kitchen accessories. Our signature molded and stitched leather handles provide a solid grip for carrying the weight of a full set of tools, while a detachable, adjustable leather shoulder strap (with a solid brass buckle) allows for hands-free transport.
We’ve constructed the body of the Knife Roll from our heavy-duty 20oz Grey waxed canvas, while the interior flap is lined with lightweight 10.10oz Flame waxed canvas -- a hidden pop of color that is sure to lighten the mood after a long day in the kitchen. When fully open, the case reveals twelve varied-width slots for knives, steel and other tools of the trade. To provide enough volume to securely hold tool handles, the canvas is first pinched, then sewn with double rows of stitching, and finally reinforced with solid brass rivets.
In addition to the main knife slots, we’ve outfitted the roll with a full-length pocket (secured with a brass YKK zipper) to keep smaller tools like tongs, spoons, and tweezers from escaping. And since the pen is sometimes mightier than the sword, we’ve added an organizational panel especially sized to hold pens, Sharpies, and business cards. Finally, for this limited edition of 50 rolls we’ve numbered each piece individually on a laser-etched interior leather tab that doubles as a cover to protect the steel (or whatever tool you decide to keep in the first slot).

Chef’s tip: Always store tools with handle-side down and use blade covers at all times in order to ensure the longevity of your Knife Roll. Please remember that canvas is a natural material and sharp blades can cut through it.
